Transformative Agreement deal offers:                                                      

A phased introduction of the open access offering.

• In the first year (2022) of the agreement eligible authors may publish in hybrid Open Access journals only.
• Years two to four (2023-2025) will include Wiley Gold Open Access journals and Hindawi journals.
• This  Model comprises all subscription-based journal titles published on Wiley Online Library (or any platform designated by Wiley) including titles previously excluded from collections, transfer titles and newly launched journals.
• There is a cap on the number of articles that can be published at no extra charge for the years of the agreement (2022 – 2025).
• For 2022 the cap is set at 120% of the number of articles published in 2021 by the University.

This means when UNIZULU authors choose to publish Open Access in a hybrid journal with Wiley,  APCs may be covered  under the Wiley’s agreement with South African National Library and Information Consortium (SANLiC), which states that authors affiliated with participating institutions may publish primary research and review articles open access in any of Wiley's hybrid journals at no cost to the author.

Eligibility                                               
To publish under this agreement, the article’s corresponding author must be from UNIZULU and the article must have been accepted on or after the start date of the agreement.  One can also check if their APCs will be covered by completing the Wiley Form.

Things to Know About Publishing Open Access Through This Agreement     

• The author doesn’t need to pay the Article Publication Charge (APC).

• Gold Open Access | Publishing your article gold open access in a hybrid journal means:
  • The final peer reviewed, publisher version of the article is made freely available online
  • Access to the article is immediate and permanent
  • Most funder and institutional requirements to make an article open access are satisfied – including authors funded by cOAlition S
  • The author retains copyright, publishing under a Creative Commons license
  • Automatic export of the final article to repositories such as PubMed Central (when appropriate)
  • An article can be gold open access in either a fully gold journal  or hybrid journal.

The agreement with Wiley allows UNIZULU authors to publish gold open access in hybrid journals for the first year (2022) of the agreement – meaning you have 1,400 journals to choose from. In the second year of the agreement, this will be expanded.
