Oxford University Press Transformative Agreements

OUP Transformative Agreements (Read and Publish)

UNIZULU and OUP have signed Transformative (“Read & Publish”) Agreements (2023 - 2025) to enable Unizulu authors to publish research articles and review articles open access with Oxford Hybrid Journals at no extra cost.  Read and Publish deals cover both subscription (read) and Article Processing Charge (OA publishing) payments.

To qualify for this deal, researchers must:
1. Be affiliated with Unizulu.
2. Use their Unizulu email address (@unizulu.ac.za) when submitting articles to the journal (so that publishers can identify them as Unizulu-affiliated)
3. Select the CC BY publication license when prompted.

Steps to follow when submitting a paper

Step 1

Once your paper has been accepted for publication, as the corresponding author you will receive an email with a link to OUP’s online licensing and payment system.

Step 2

Log in to sign your license to publish and choose an Open Access license. [Please note, you will be asked to confirm that you will pay the Open Access charge but you will not need to pay the charge provided that your eligibility is confirmed by the institution. We recommend you check eligibility with your institution before choosing the Open Access license.

Step 3

Proceed to payment and select ‘South African Institutions (SANLIC)’ from the dropdown list of institutions beneath ‘Open Access Prepayment Account’ on the Article Charges page.

Check the ‘Refer Charge?’ box next to the Open Access charge, and then click ‘Refer Charges’ at the bottom of the page.

Provide the information requested on the ‘Confirm Address’ page and complete the request. You will receive an email confirming that your request has been sent.

Your request will be reviewed to verify that you are eligible.

You will need to arrange payment separately for any other charges applicable to your article, i.e. page or colour charges.

Step 4

You will receive an email when the verification process is complete and the Open Access charge has been paid.
