To find books on philosophy using Primo (your library’s discovery tool), follow these steps:
Access Primo:
- Go to the library’s website (library.unizulu.ac.za)
- Look for the Primo search tool or library catalog link.
- Click to open Primo.

Start Your Search:
- In the search bar, type “philosophy” or more specific keywords like “ethics,” “metaphysics,” or “philosophical theories.”
- You can also search for particular philosophers like “Plato,” “Aristotle,” or “Immanuel Kant.”
Filter Your Results:
- Once the search results appear, use the filters on the left-hand side to refine your search:
- Material Type: Select "Books" or "eBooks" to focus on books.
- Availability: Choose “Available online” for e-books or “Available in the library” for physical books.
- Publication Date: Set a date range if you’re looking for newer or older works.
- Language: Select the language in which you prefer the materials.
Browse the Results:
- Review the list of books that match your query. Look at the titles, authors, and brief descriptions to find the ones relevant to your topic.
Access the Book:
- For e-books, click the "Available online" link. You’ll be directed to a platform where the book is hosted (e.g., ProQuest, EBSCO), and you can either read it online or download it.
- For physical books, check the location and call number to find it on the library shelves. Some libraries allow you to request books for pickup.
Advanced Search (optional):
- If you're looking for something specific, use the Advanced Search option.
- Enter more detailed criteria such as author name, subject heading, or specific terms like “ethics in philosophy” or “philosophy of mind.”
You can also combine keywords with Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to refine your search.
- Cite the Book (optional):
- When you find a useful book, click on the citation tool in Primo to generate citations in different formats (APA, Harvard, etc.).
